Will this help me sleep? 1 mg of Chlorpheniramine Maleate - Antihistamine. Nightime cough pill split 1/2? FIRST OFF, I KNOW THIS ISN"T WHY I SHOULD TAKE THIS... But I've been laying in bed 2 hours and cannot sleep. I have mild insomnia and this only happens on rare occasions. I do not take nighttime meds to go to bed ever, except now cause I need to get to sleep!
Yeah Vegetarian Friendly. That's why here 40 minutes later I feel exactly the same.
Reply Vegeterian Friendly Fucking hell you would get put into a coma!
Jon B It's a shame to avail yourself of the off-label use of an over-the-counter preparation for sleep when there are so many highly effective medications out there now which, if they are the right ones for you, will provide refreshing sleep without a hangover, I encourage you to see your M.D. about this problem. It may take some experimentation to find the right drug(s) for your version of insomnia. Be patient. Some of the types of medicines used to treat insomnia are benzodiazepines, antidepressants and antipsychotics. You may have to fiddle with the dose to get it just right so have your physician prescribe more of a lower dose of whatever you select for trial. Do not worry if you need the meds for sleep on a regular basis. The word "abuse" stigmatizes the use of meds on a regular basis. There IS a difference between use and abuse. Untreated insomnia can be very dangerous, such as when you get behind the wheel when fatigued with your alertness compromised. The monetary and psychological benefit of using the proper drugs properly will enable you to return to a quality of life that can not be achieved by other methods. Be sure also that if there's an underlying depressive or anxiety disorder that this gets addressed appropriately (psycho therapeutic treatment).
To address the response by Hatminon, You must not work in the technical end of the pharmaceutical industry because if you did you would know that she's not mixing medications: Chlorpheniramine is the parent compound and maleate is the conjugate acid, i.e. the salt of maleic acid; the hyphen indicates that the medication falls into the class of drugs known as antihistamines. Read carefully and answer even more carefully, you're dealing with someone else's health and by throwing around statements like "I work in the pharmaceutical industry" lends misleading and false authority to your statements. Finally, it is evident this person is suffering from CHRONIC insomnia, not an occasional night of no sleep, if you read between the lines. This condition needs to be addressed medically and with expediency because of the compounding danger of going night after night without sleeping.
hatmanone Please do not mix medications. Trust me, I work in the Pharmaceutical industry. Different medicines, even if mild by themselves, when mixed together can be toxic and be fatal
I too suffer from insomnia. A occasional night with poor sleep won't kill you.I find I sleep better at night of I exercise when I get home from work. A glass of warm milk may help, eve chamomile tea
Otherwise it may be useful to talk to a dr. But please don't combine meds
