What is the cheapest model Colt 1911 .45?
I am planning on getting a Colt 1911 as a graduation gift. This would be my first handgun and I am looking for a good durable gun to have but money is an issue (Around $600 is the highest i can go). I am hoping to customize it in the future (Maybe adding a compensator and minor adjustments) but for now I'm just looking for a basic .45 to shoot and to own. So what is your suggestions on what model 1911 I should try to get? Thanks in advance!

The colt is free. You get it when you start off in round 1 of zombies. XD

I bought a brand new Springfield 1911 for about 600 dollars a couple of years back. Instead of a new cheap 1911, why not get a quality used one? Also, congrats on choosing the 1911. One of te best pistols ever made. I think you will really enjoy it.

if you're going to modify in the future you're gonna have to shell out a little more for a quality 1911. putting a compensator and other stuff on a cheap 1911 is like putting marble floors in a housing project... for a genuine Colt 1911 that's gonna run at least 800. Kimber, Springfield, Smith & Wesson, basically any name-brand gun manufacturer makes a 1911 nowadays. shop around and im sure you'll find one that suits your fancy. and your budget.

I used to build 1911's. This is a tough question. Really. New shooters should start off with a nice $300 22 semi-auto like the S&W 22A. This is a pistol that uses dirt cheap ammo - and - you can use both to start indoor competition and outdoor fun. You drop $600 on a 1911 and $350 on a few boxes of 45 ammo - come the end of summer you will have a used 1911, box of shells - and be a terrible marksman. 45acp is not a good caliber to start with. Now - you buy a 1911 and a 22A plus $50 in 22 ammo - come the end of the summer you will be a decent shot ($18 for a brick of 500 22 shells) and own two nice pistols. That 22A will be a great learning gun for a long time. As time goes on - you can ask people you meet at the range to try their 45's. Eventually, you will find you that really floats your boat! $600 is a realistic budget. My suggestion - if you won't do the 22A - go buy the cheapest used 1911 you can find at a reputable gunshop. You can have fun shooting the hell out of it, taking it apart all the time and learning how it works. This is something you would never, ever, do with a nice 1911 used for CCW or match shooting - since everytime you disassemble and reassemble it loosens up all the parts. My advice - the 22A. My second choice - get a nasty used one to beat around with for now - and save your money up for something really sharp - like a Kimber. This way you have one that shoots great at the indoor range and looks like a million bucks - and a second pistol that you can thow in a back pack and not give a hoot about. Nothing say you can only have one gun - unless you have an obsolete version of wife 1.0 loaded and running in your home. I am running wife 3.0 and it lets you keep as many guns as you want - providing they all fit in the safe. Lucky for me - I got a big safe when running wife 2.0

Consider a Rock Island Armory....... About $500.... These are fairly decent pistols... Keep in mind these are for the budget minded..... The trigger pull is a little heavy and not super crisp... Other than a trigger job - I certainly would not upgrade one..... Buy it, use it, enjoy it and when you want better buy a top quality one by Kimber, Wilson or other better name.....

Haven't seen any new "Colt(s?)" 1911's on the market for under $600 in at least a decade.

Taurus offers 1911's with most features at starting about $600. Just about every gun company is offering a version of the 1911 design. Understand this type pistol tends to be found above your price range. The taurus will save you the need for add ons, compared to a basic pistol.

Here is one of mine, you should be able to get it for 600 on gunbroker. Check out my review of it, lots of pics, let me know what you think.

the Taurus PT911 is in your price range and comes with several "upgrades " as original equipment , like a beaver tail grip safety . the Rock Island Armory . try www.gunbroker.com to find something in your price range, I recently purchaced a Wilson Combat for 480$ after dealer transfer charges.

What would I be looking at buying? Under your price range: The Rock Island Armory FSP or Tactical, and the Springfield Armory GI. Slightly above your price range: The Springfield Armory Mil-Spec. Actual Colt's are often somewhat pricey even if they're used. You will have a tough time finding one for $600., unless it's well worn.

Smart Buyers always buy a Good Used Gun and Save Lots of $$$$. A New Gun does not shoot any better, or last any longer than a Good Used One.* Just buy the Basic Full Size Government Model 1911 Field Model.* Any Brand, or any Amount of $$$$ you spend for a 1911 New, or a Good Used one will shoot bullet groups you can cover with the palm of your hand at 25 yards as long as you do your part.* I have one.* There are Lots of Good Used ones available to buy.* Why buy a New one?... " Remember you can't buy Accuracy; Accuracy begins and ends with You no matter how much $$$$ you spend on one."...

Rock Island Armory these guns are pretty good in my opinion. i have one that i bought because i thought the price was good didn't expect much of it but was really impressed. i also own a kimber raptor and it compares really good to it price difference was alot kimber=$1200 while the Rock Island Armory 1911=$475 i have not had any problems with it. i have to say it feeds hollow points way better than my kimber.i think its an excellent 1911 for the price

There is a Para Ordnance GI at the local gunshop for $535 I would jump on in a heartbeat. There are no cheap Colts

RIA 1911's and the Springfield GI are within your price range. Both are excellent for a relaxing afternoon at the range. Both will get the job done if an intruder enters your home. There are fancier 1911's, but unless you shoot competitions, or are super anal about the particulars, there's no need to go any richer. That being said, most people who love 1911's own several. Welcome aboard.

Rock River and Springfield both offer very good entry level 1911's. You should not have difficulties finding one for well under $600. I can highly recommend the basic Springfields. On a related side note for right at $700 cash you could get the new Springfield "Range Officer" This .45 has about every bell and whistle you might want from the beginning. I don't know how Springfield is able to produce this gun at the price break they do but its one of the best .45's I have ever shot.
