Where should I have my son sleep in the hotel?
My son is 14 months and is very tall and 30lbs. We brought the pack-n-play last time and he slept in it but he did not have any space to move around. I was thinking of buying a kids air mattress but I don't want him to roll off and hurt himself. He is not ready for a big bed yet. Something like this: Should I just put cushy blankets on the floor for him or get the air mattress? What would you do? Nina that is a GREAT idea! I didn't even think of it. Yeah, I would ask for a crib but sometimes they are yucky. They are not always in the best condition either (safety wise.)

either have the hotel bring a crib in the room or put him on a pad on the floor!

We were at a hotel a week ago w/ our 16 month old. Here's what I did.... we had a king size bed and a roll-out sofa. I took the mattress off the roll-out and placed it directly on the floor for him to sleep on (only a few inches to fall if it would have happened.. he slept great though). (The roll-out itself wasn't high but there was a lot of metal and gaps so I went w/ putting it on the floor.) ETA: That's what my hubby said (lol). It took me 20 minutes to come up w/ the idea, LOL. We were going to put him in bed w/ us until we got there and saw that it was about 4 feet high! He's too much of a wiggle worm and would have ended up injured. (My oldest doesn't move when he sleeps- total opposite!!)

Ask the hotel for a roll-away bed for your son.

Give him the air mattress. It's already on the ground. How hurt can he get falling 3 inches? My son fall out of his bed constantly. He doesn't even wake up. I find him sleeping on the floor in the morning.

Most hotel's have cribs available on request.

Christine
buy him the air mattress but ever couple of hours check on him and make sure that he didn't fall off it

You know that creepy bellhop who opened the door for you when you came to the hotel? The one with pedophilia mustache and who smelt like the inside of a musty purse? You should let your son sleep with that guy, he has all kinds of fun toys. Have fun!

I think that will be good for him. Looks like it would be hard for him to roll off of that. Just line the floor around the mattress with pillows or blankets.

Call the hotel and ask to reserve a port-a-crib or rollaway crib. These are usually available for no extra charge. It may or may not come with sheets but you may want to bring your own blankies from home so your son feels something familiar and will sleep better.

If he's just going to be in the pack and play to sleep, i think it would be the best option at his age. My daughter was also very tall and I know i stayed at a hotel when she was 18 months old and used the Pack and Play.

Well you could put him in bed with you but if you object to that you could bring a playpen. Or see if the hotel has a crib. If you do that I would bring my own blankets and sheets for it.

You could try something like this ... but it might take up too much room in your vehicle. If you have a mini-van it should be no problem.

If you go the air-mattress route, I can't see how he might be "hurt" from rolling off. Granted, he might be startled and wake up quite upset, but he most likely wouldn't be hurt. If you are really concerned about that, put the air mattress up against the couch on one side, and put the couch cushions on the other side, provided they are removable. That will prevent him from rolling off the mattress itself.

i'd get a room with a king-sized bed and put him between you. my kids have done air mattresses, too when they were a little older. i wouldn't be so much worried about his rolling off (it's not far to fall) as about his waking up and getting into trouble if you were still asleep.

We are going on vaction in two weeks and our plan is to have our 1 year old in bed with me, the 3 year old in bed with the hubs and my 10 year old on the fold out couch bed.

I like the floor mat idea!!

FYI, you can get an air mattress at walmart (and probably other department stores) for about half the price. I'm not sure how they would compare in quality to the aero bed, but it might be worth looking into. A little less trouble than the pulling a mattress out of the couch idea (a great idea by the way), and like the aero bed - you would be able to save it for future trips & sleep overs. I believe they come in disney princess theme for girls and cars theme for boys. Cheyenne wouldn't sleep with blankets on the floor plus I didn't want her getting into stuff. So I always just put her in bed with me when we went on trips. But if your son can sleep on the floor - there's nothing wrong with it. Enjoy your trip :)

the air mattresso or Nina's idea...and then just bring extra pillows to place around him. also...our daughter is the type to where she doesn't roll..she walks...she is going to be 2 in august..and if she is not in a crib when sleeping then when she wakes up...she roams..she does not stay where she is. so we bought the following.. its big enought that my brother borrowed it for his 3 year old when they went on vacation.
