Today's Discussion

Why does a window air conditioner drip inside the house instead the outside?
Our fairly new room air conditioner (window mounted) is dripping water from the front of the unit (inside the room) instead of dripping outdoors. Unit is mounted leaning inward instead of outward because of the type of window it's mounted in --- unable to fix it so that it leans toward the outside. Do I need to make it lean outside to fix the problem?

Yes, there is a reason the instructions state to mount it with it leaning outside. The water drips out by gravity.

The units is designed so that the water dips outside. Very likely the lean angle you mentioned is the culprit. It is causing the water accumulation to hit the inside edge of the tray first, so that water flows over the edge from the wrong side. You may have to reseat the aircon, or put something to tilt the water accumulation tray the other way so it empties into the drain of the aircon to the outside.

In layman's terms, It needs to be tilted backwards to the outside a hair. If you can, take it out of the window and put a 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick board under it and allow the back of it leans outwards. GL!
