I have an air compressor that stops two seconds after being switched on. Any ideas as to the fault? All power seems to be OK, and the piston starts up but there is some sort of trip that stops it that I cannot find

RON BELSHE AMERICAN This could be caused be a bad cutoff relay/switch.
Pull the cover off and watch it to see what happens.
If you have a air pressure adjustment valve, make sure it's turned up and not all the way down.
CARL G H could be the pressure regulator for it as electric compressors do completely turn off if the psi meets its set goal (note set goal as sat may be too low!) some compressors are on demand or tank less and only start and run long enough to fill the hose with pressure. the nozzle fitting activates them when air flows, next could be you have an extension cord on a larger compressor and this causes the compressor to overload (over heat) the electronic system protection or safety for this a shorter thicker cord must be used if required better yet no extension and a longer air hose. hope it helped
