Today's Discussion

How hard would it be to be a modern day Johnny Appleseed?
Is it possible you think? Is there anywhere in the world where I could just go around and plant fruit trees? Maybe I could rely on friends and family to mail me seeds to P.O. boxes or something. I know I will need some money, but is this idea even possible you think? I am just toying with the idea, lol. Thanks. I am serious about this too. (((((EmanCipating))))) I am going to let my heart guide me on this one. I will meditate, and wait for a sign/intuition/dream, etc. You are such a dear friend. And (((((Christian))))) If you decide you want some company and we all decide to take the plunge it would be nice to have a few friends along :) This has been something I have been thinking of for awhile now myself. My heart keeps gently pulling my attention toward this sort of lifestyle.

no. Back then there was alot of empty land not owned by anyone. These days, all the land's spoken for. Even if you planted them, the owners would probibly just cut them down.

There are wonderful places you could do such things but they would be missed by most as they're considered "3rd world" or "non civilized" which is a complete joke.

Love.. I would come with you and plant those seeds. I have thought many times about a tent, backpack, my dog, my cat...a good coat and good shoes, yes and my computer and hitting the road! My son is off to college next fall and I am out! I know some people around the USA ....I am serious. Peace dear friend...totally understand. Mudslinger

Actually, the life of Johnny Appleseed is more a parable than a true story, though the man did indeed exist, and though he did indeed do many wonderful things. Yes, it's possible for you to carry on the spirit of Johnny Appleseed. First, you have to be generous. Think more about improving the lives of others through imparting to them a healthy, natural lifestyle, and never think about luxury in your own life, how you can handsomely profit from spreading the good seeds. You must keep your life and self humble, like Johnny did. Second, be outspoken and very active in conservation issues. Third, find your symbolic "apple" , whatever it may be. Johnny Appleseed didn't just walk around the countryside planting trees in random locations. He methodically went around to nurseries - to people who were already interested in agriculture - and preached the goodness of apples and apple trees. And yes, he had seeds ready to go. If there's one food that you think is a super-food that you want as many people in the world to eat as possible, the best way these days to be a Johnny Appleseed is first to have your own little plot of land so you can grow this food, be around it constantly, experiment with it, become an expert in it. Then you have to devote a website to this food, "spread the seed" online. Write articles about your food for publications. Write a book. Write a cookbook. People will eventually contact you, and then you can start travelling. Don't forget the seeds.

You'd have to start with your own little grove of apple pear peach or orange trees. Then you harvest all the seeds from the fruit in preparation for your quest. Start spreading the word to cities across the country that you would like to plant trees in public parks, roadsides, medians, bus stops, etc and see what cities are open or welcoming. Travel to those cities and contact the local media. You can stop to less welcoming cities along the way with token gifts of trees in public parks. They are going to take off more easily if you plant young trees rather than just planting seeds, but that is your choice. Does that sound like fun to you? Go for it if it does.

Doing it is the way to determine how it is to be done. I promise to take this to heart myself for I have been wondering the same thing regarding my own destiny. I put my foot forward... and the path opens before me. Namaste'
