Contemporary Art is generally considered anything within the last 60 years (since World War II). Modern Art is anything within the last 400 years.

these terms are used interchangably . They mean pretty much the same thing , although I'm sure some professor of fine art at Cambridge would be able to point out the fundamental dichotomy between these two terms . Or not. Modern / contemporary art can cover anything from Banksy to Beryl Cook or Tracey Emin .
