Today's Discussion

At what age did you start giving your baby snacks? And what did you give them?
My baby is 7 months old and she has a rather large appetite. I was wondering when I could start giving her the little Gerber puffs, etc. When did you start giving your baby snacks?

Usually the Puffs are fine around now. You can also try bits of cheese as well or possibly even yogurt melts. You can also give some yogurt as a snack but sometimes docs want you to wait a bit longer for milk products. You can try Nutri Grain bars broken up into small pieces.

i actually just read this in my what to expect the first year book and you can start now. you can even mover her up to stage 3 if she is on stage 2. my little one eats alot also but he is getting bored with stage 2 so after he finishes them i will get him stage 3. i also started introducing fruit in his mesh feeder. they dont use thier teeth to eat till they are older. the book recommended using rice cakes, and frozen bagels.

I started at around 7-8 months Jack loves the gerber puffs, he's 9 months now and when he sees mommy has a snack he crawls right up to me and my pulls up on my leg with his mouth wide open.

If she can pick up the puffs and put it in her mouth she can eat them. the puffs dissolve quickly. My daughter was round the same age. the teething biscuits work great too. Just take it away before it gets too small. The Baby yogarts r awesome too.

Snacks? Meals? What's the difference? Seriously? I just don't get it. Gerber puffs are junk food, and worse they use dangerous ingredients just to keep their "all natural" label. The orange puffs (sweet potato and peach) contain annatto which is a natural food colouring known to cause as many or more reactions as artificial colours. Healthy food is healthy food, it can be given any time the baby is hungry. In between when I cook meals mostly there is fruit or vegetable sticks around. Maybe some small amounts of whole grain cereal or crackers.

I started giving my son the organic puffs (happy baby brand) around 7.5 months. So far he has had 2 of the yogurt melts, because of the dairy I chose to hold off a bit longer with them. He also started cheerios around 7.5 months as well. Now, at 8 months, he loves them! It took him a bit to figure it out. I will now take the apple flavored puffs (or cheerios) and smash them into powder, then roll fresh banana bits in it to add a "coating" so he can pick them up easier and eat them as snacks. That choice is much healthier if you are looking for those options.

When they were about six months I began giving them the Zweiback baby toast and Arrowroot Cookies. They both melted really easy in thier mouths. Then about eight months I began giving them a little of the other Gerber Toddler Foods such as the Puffs... by ten months they were eating all table food and no more baby food at all.
