This song was a great hit originally for Jimmy Cliff, a reggae star of Bob Marley's era. It speaks to the Rastafarian belief in the divinity of the former king of Ethiopia. King Alpha is actually Haile Selassi, that former king. The question asked is: How can we sing King Alpha's song in a strange land; that is, a land far from Ethiopia, specifically Jamaica, the heart of Rasta land. So, a poster which draws attention to the distance between Ethiopia and Jamaica and yet ties them together (because slaves were taken from there), would honor the intent of the song.

I got my answer when we headed for our next stop, Istanbul's number-one nightspot, Babylon. If the great rock on which Pera rises from the Bosphorus were some slumbering mythical giant, then Istiklal Caddesi would be its spine.
