No. The whole concept of the Barbie is to potray what Western society has been brainwashed into wanting: The "Perfect body". It's an unhealthy obsession. < See this picture, it's not my property but it contributes to my argument that the Barbie is not suitable for your 5 year old daughter. Exposing children to these fake pieces of plastic at such a young age can have very unhealthy results, sure you don't want that!

I wish there was a current one because I really want one for my niece, she's a toddler, but still has to be told to not put anything in her mouth and all that. I think your daughter is a little too young but maybe when she's a little bit older. Anyway, if you're okay with buying used or new but old dolls, Mattel released a soft-body Barbie doll in 1993 called "Bedtime Barbie" and then another one in 1995 called "Pretty Dreams Barbie". They have plenty of these on ebay (they are really overpriced on Amazon), and some of them are new in the box, don't pay a ridiculous amount for one if you decide to buy one because they are not collector editions, they are not rare (I found a new-looking one at a thrift shop recently), and they are not vintage (a lot of people think that because a Barbie is "old", its vintage, in the Barbie collector-world, dolls produced from 1959-1971 are considered vintage, everything else is modern and therefore not highly sought after items). My only other suggestion is to give the doll a good wash, these older dolls have thicker hair that tangles or frizzes over-time, so to avoid this (especially with a young child) wash the hair with shampoo and leave a good amount of conditioner in all her hair for a few minutes, rinse then comb the hair straight (start from the tips and work your way up to the roots to avoid Barbie baldness), let it air-dry (its best if you do this at night if you're an impatient person) completely somewhere where it won't be disturbed, and if you don't want your little girl eating the hair, ruining it, etc., you can just make Barbie a tight braid after her hair dries (this will cause major curliness but you could apply a boil perm. Here's a link to another answer if you're interested in this: @Stormy Armstrong The whole idea of Barbie negatively influencing and giving girls false ideas of what it is to be a woman is ridiculous. Barbie is just a toy and its the parents' responsibility to teach their children to differentiate fantasy from reality, what are attainable and healthy goals, and what aren't. Like many girls, I grew up playing with Barbie dolls on an almost daily basis and yet the entire time I knew that I could never look or be like Barbie, and I never tried to, because she is a doll! The same can be said about idealistic romance and violence in the media, its for entertainment purposes and if a person chooses to really believe that its okay, cool, real, etc. then that is there own poor, delusional, reality. Like I said, its the parents' responsibility to educate their children and discourage unrealistic and distorted ideals, goals, and unhealthy behaviors, and if a parent can't even manage to teach their children something as simple as that from a very early age instead of waiting until unhealthy behaviors start, then maybe they shouldn't have kids at all. Your argument is based on common misconceptions, misinformation, theory, and biased opinions, not on any factual evidence that can actually support your argument. A photo of a girl with health issues is not evidence, you can't judge someone based solely on what is believed to be their problem. There are many contributing factors that can trigger a person into believing something unreal and developing distorted ideals, you can't pin it only on one thing, especially if you can't even provide factual evidence rather than opinion and theory to validate your argument. I don't agree with blaming toys and media for delusional personalities, but if stupid parents are going to use toys as a scapegoat for their daughter's behavior, then wouldn't role playing with baby dolls make a better argument about influencing girls to embrace society's set role of women at such a young age?

There aren't any for children that young, but there are a few "ballerina" type Barbie dolls and Disney Princess dolls for young girls. They have painted-on leotards, and tutus that may or may not be removable, depending on the doll. Shoes can always be removed and saved until the child is old enough to not eat them.
