I use rubbing alcohol. But there are much better things available at your local pharmacy.

hydrogen peroxide ...dab some on the bite and it should take the itch out. Or buy an "Afterbite" pen...a convenient pen style gadget with an applicator on the tip that is filled with peroxide, and will definitely take the itch out.

Anti-itch cream. Also, before you go out for a BBQ, use bug repellent with DEET.

Rubbing alcohol followed by clear nail polish. They actually even make a "treatment" for use on mosquito bites that is clear nail polish, identified as something special concocted to treat bites. It's all BS, just cover them in clear nail polish, and try bug spray next time. It really does work!

Campho-phenique (little green bottle in the pharamacy or medicine isle). Ivory soap baths/showers work well too.

The next time you barbeque, do not wear blue colored clothes, it attracts mosquitoes. Also use a fan to blow away your breath. The carbon dioxide also attracts the pests. Applying a mosquito repellent is advised. DEET is very good and some stores sell solutions that well over 85% DEET, as the main ingredient. In areas that have extremely high levels of mosquitoes, like Alaska, and Northern Canada, covering up and using sealable cuff pants and shirts is helpful. you may have to wear a hat with mosquito netting attached to it, too. Treat the bite area with a cream containg xylocaine hydrochloride. ( a topical anesthetic, which deadens the pain and itch). The bite area can be treated with hot water which may break down some of the many proteins that the mosquito introduces into a bite that causes allergic responses. Alcohol may also degrade some of those bug proteins. Take an antihistamine such as benadryl (diphenhydramine), for multiple bites or if you are having sleeping problems. But watch out for drowsiness as a side effect. Good luck.

If you don't have any afterbite or rubbing alcohol, or ice the best absolute best even if you have those things is mud. This was discovered in the olden days as the farmers worked in the fields they would get bit by mosquitos and of course would scratch but their hand had dirt on them (hence the mud) and that would stick to the bites, and the bites would quit itching. This really works and if you just have dirt not mud then spit and dirt works great sounds gross but it is the best method yet.
