I think it will help. I am a very anxious person, and I went from being very shy to being able to talk to anyone. So, good luck. Talk to your campus counselor for advice and possibley classes that may help you with this. You can learn to work with it and be very happy with the results.

Thrusting yourself in large groups will not help your social anxiety. I have been diagnosed with anxiety disorder and my son has social anxiety disorder. I was taught techniques by a licensed therapist to help cope with my anxiety issues and my son is on Clonazepam for his and does cognitive therapy to learning coping strategies. He is 16 and I am 37--either way at any age--it's never to late to seek someone who is professionally trained to give you guidance in your journey and battle with anxiety disorder. Good Luck. You have already achieved step 1 and that is acknowledging it is a problem for you.

I think that is definitely a good start. I would also recommend taking those first steps and talking to people, maybe people who you wouldn't normally talk to, because in case you haven't realized it yet you too are judging people which in turn is making you think that everyone is judging you which isn't helping your anxiety. Just be yourself and express yourself, if they don't like it, it's their loss. Don't forget, college can be a place that you make friendships that last a lifetime but you need to get outside your comfort zone and find those people, they won't for the most part knock down your door, wanting to get to know you.
