Today's Discussion

Has your baby ever fallen from your bed (or changing table or other raised surfaces)? Was he/she allright?
I'm just thinking about worst case scenarios, what's the worst possible thing that could happen? I notice that babies don't easily hit their head in a fall, most babies that I know somehow managed to fall on their hands and knees, which is relieving.

Thank the Lord, my little one hasn't. But...a friend of mine used to sleep with her newborn on her chest. She always laid still in her sleep and the baby was fine. Well her hubby wanted to try it one night when the baby was having a hard time sleeping. So he did it, and the baby, and he, fell asleep. Well, he decided to roll over in his sleep, and their 2 mos old fell out of bed onto their TILE floor in their bedroom. She seemed ok once she settled down, but of course they took her to the ER to be sure. She was fine, but Daddy never tried that one again!

One night while my son was sleeping in his bassinet the cat and dog started playing with each other and the cats claws got caught in the bassinet and pulled it right over. My little guy fell onto the carpet face first. He only cried for a few minutes, but we had him checked out just to be sure. he was fine! I was a mess, Cried for days!

Babies bounce. Don't worry about it. The main thing is, are you all right? Remember, you can always have another one.

my baby fell off a bed (very high) on a carpet at 7 months.she landed on her back, and now, at 13 months she's doing better than most .... :) my mother always tells me: "infants have somewhat soft skull and bones and are extremely flexible. it's nature's way to protect them from falls, hits and etc"

My best friend was feeding her five-month old on her bed. He was in a bouncer seat and not so much as crawling yet. She'd buckled him in, fed him half his cereal and realized she didn't have a wipe nearby to get his face. So she walked to the other side of the room to get wipes and, when she turned around to walk back, he'd somehow wiggled out of his seat and fell not only out of his seat but straight down onto the floor on his face. She was a wreck! He didn't cry when he hit the floor and when she picked him up, he fell asleep on her shoulder. She rushed him to the doctor and the doctor checked him out and said that, outside of looking like a prize fighter, he'd be fine. Babies are resilient and their bones are very flexible. A few weeks later, he actually lost part of his front tooth though. The dentist thought it had probably been weakened when he fell and just took some time to work out. If a baby falls off something, you should always have them checked even though they're probably fine. Babies, especially young babies, can suffer from cerebral hemorrhaging and broken collar bones without showing obvious signs of distress.

My lil bro fell once when he was tiny right on his head onto a wooden grate in the front yard. he had a bump but was fine. Also one time when I was at my moms I had my 2 wk old baby sleeping on the floor. My 2 yr old woke from his nap and stepped right on his head. I was terrified that he was really hurt but I called the doc they told me what to look for and he was fine it was really scary though

my daughter fell off the bed twice. both times i left the room thinking because her daddy was in the room, that he would watch her. the first time she was about 3.5mos and she rolled off. she was on her tumy and shuffled to the edge and then rolled to her back and rolled off. she landed on her back, im not too sure if she hit her head hard, but after a cuddle, she forgot about it. the second thime she was about 6mos and she was learning to crawl she was on all 4s and literally took a nosedive off the bed. again, after a cuddle she was fine. i was just sure to keep and eye on her that she wasnt over sleepy, that she didnt vomit - as oppose to a bit of milk spit up. touch wood, it hasnt happened since

My first daughter fell off my lap when she was 5 days old while i was trying to unclasp my bra to feed her, she landed on her back in her moses basket which was at my feet. I rang my midwife straight away and told her i had killed my baby, but she assured me I hadn't as she could hear her crying in the background. She also said that babies are more likely to bounce cos they don't tense up if they fall like older kids or adults do. She said it was more common than people think and that she would check her over if i wanted her too but that I should call the Dr or go to A+E if I was really worried. My Daughter is now a happy healthy 8 yr old so no damage done lol
