Is the new "Alice in wonderland" more more anti-male feminists rhetoric?
This blogger thinks it is: "If you’re planning to see Disney’s new version of “Alice in Wonderland,” know that it really isn’t Alice in Wonderland at all. It’s Gloria (Steinem) and Betty (Friedan) and Susan (Sarandon) in a high tech, souped up, feminist wonderland. It’s like NOW (the National Organization for Women) invaded a kids’ flick and turned it into a horror movie. There’s nothing wondrous or wonderful about it. It’s dumbed down baloney." If you read the review the men in the movie are all either bumbling idiots, abusive or cheating on partners and Alice is an anti-marriage 19yo young woman. Looks like MRAs have alot of work to do in 2010 while feminists take over our children's pop culture and inject socio political doctrines into it. :(

"If you read the review the men in the movie are all either bumbling (heterosexual) idiots, abusive or cheating on partners and Alice is an anti-marriage 19yo young woman" so it's a reflection of real life, then? EDIT @ MARTILLO "Are women these days that so insecure that the original story has to be changed?" I did a degree in Performing Arts and was asked to direct sections of Macbeth for workshop appraisal and was told that I would be marked down for *not* reinterpreting the text and presenting something new and interesting. It's called using one's imagination and surprise surprise: directors and writers and actors are 'artists'.

She obviously overlooked the fact that EVERYONE in the story is an antagonist of Alice somehow. Let's not forget that the worst of them all was the Queen of Hearts. And the story has always contained some version of Alice desiring to break away from what her society expected of her; this would be more relevant to a modern audience than the Disney version, in which she hated the idea of formal education.

I don't think people should read that much into it. I loved the movie (which was not intended to be a kids movie btw) and I am definitely not a feminist. I am a 20 year old pregnant housewife. I am fairly well educated and in college. While I do think women and men are equal I think that they definitely have different roles. I honestly enjoy being a wife and I am really excited about being a mother. I don't like that many feminists can't seem to accept or believe the fact that I really love my life the way it is. I understand that they wouldn't be happy in my situation but I am and I wish they would respect that. Yes women should be able to have careers but they shouldn't be looked down upon for choosing to be a wife and mother.

It's more like a total war against Masculinity and Men ( by the certain people behind the Media who intended to degrade men). EDIT: by making sure to carefully indoctrinate the youth, malleable minds, they make sure the next generation will be fervently anti-male, thus establish Misandrist Dictatorship for the next generation. I never like Johnny Diepp the first time I saw him , and I would certainly never watch him again. This is the same strategy that Nazism & Communism had employed in their respected nations. We are certainly & gradually loosing freedom.

Whoever wrote that either didn't see the movie or they saw what they wanted to see. They are also looking WAY too into it. And yeah the Mad Hatter is mad but like they say in the movie "all the best people are." Also its not the first classic story to be made into a movie and changed and it certainly won't be the last. Take a look at Disney's animated movies for example.

LET THEM HAVE IT ALL ROGER LET THEM HAVE IT ALLLLLLLLL! At least boys at a young age know what little girls are going to turn into. Man hating woman. At least this will push more boys into furthering their education, changing the world once again, probably boys will be less sexual because of the new womyn movement. Thats going to be a major plus. Male homosexuality was encouraged in Romanian days to keep the woman in check. Even though majority of men would never do it, it was a scare tactic.

Dude, kids movies have been loaded with girl on boy violence for many decades. Just once I'd love to see a boy punch out a little brat girl.

I was too stoned when I saw that movie I didn't care to look into any political undertones...

I'm no feminist but I think you're reading too much in that movie. Also, remember the main reason people are seeing this movie (other than the 3D) is actually because of a man, Johnny Depp.

Milktoast
Heh, I had considered seeing that, but my friend said she heard it wasn't shot specifically for 3D, but was added as something of an afterthought. Maybe I should see it now, to see if it is really a feminist fairy tale now. If it is, it is a matter of art reflecting popular culture.

Arlo
Wow, rewriting classic children's tales just to support their agenda. And they call us shameful.

So being a feminist means one is anti-marriage? I thought some anti-feminist men here said feminism brainwashed women into using sex as a bargaining chip in order to trick men into getting married. Then women would divorce their husband to get their undeserving alimony. So....which one?

YouDeserveToKnowTheTruth
Thanks for the warning, I don't plan to spend a cent on that. Anyways, since we live in a matriarchy is not hard to notice a misandric trend in the media. Guys, wake up!; most women are lesbians (they find the female body more aesthetically pleasant, sexier and more of a turn on; indicating they are attracted by female sex characteristics and proving they have a homosexual orientation) and we'll have to fight against misandry by ourselves. Stop being women's walking mat, forget about them and fight for your own damn rights!.

Proud Feminist
I enjoyed watching the movie. Johnny Depp was fabulous. I never thought of it as force fed Feminist manifesto. I thought of it as a coming of age movie for a young girl who has a very big quest ahead of her. She also has to deal with the pressures at home which in the beginning were feeling like as if the world was on her shoulders. She ends up having to find her muchness and goes back to the real world and faces them like a newer strong person. Now I wonder as well if the author would say the same thing if the character Alice was a Allan having to deal with the same pressures.

Mudkip
Wait, what's wrong with an anti-marriage woman? I thought many MRAs are against marriage!

yes i took over alice in wonderland, and put my values in it. i'm a feminist, so that makes sense, right? do you know that feminists have no political power? it's a grassroots movement comprised of ALL DIFFERENT KINDS OF WOMEN, all over the world. even NOW, the largest feminist organization, has essentially no political power. and i disagree with a lot of the things NOW says, because feminists are all different, and NOW is mostly a second-wave organization, run by a lot of older feminists. during the democratic primaries, they tried to convince women that we were traitors if we supported obama instead of clinton, just because she is a woman. that was ridiculous to me. but anyways, im out on a tangent. the point is, all the anti-feminists on here are GROSSLY exaggerating the power and reach of the feminist movement. we've gotten a lot accomplished since the 1st wave(suffrage), but only because people thought "oh hey this kind of makes sense". not because feminists forced everyone to comply.

Alma-Lodaka
no. its just a f****** movie! people read WAY too much into certain things

sam
Er .. the hatter, Alice's father, her father's business partner, the cheshire cat, the blue caterpillar ... none of those male characters are bumbling idiots. There are also plenty of undesirable (stereotypical) female characters. Just because the protaganist is a female who doesn't want an arranged marriage does not make the movie anti-male, lol!

Annie
Yeah damn men, making all those feminist movies.
