This is to offset against the German make body which normally displays a throbbing member off to the right, unlike most European men who's dic.ks bend to the left. Comfort when driving the autobahn

Hmm never noticed.. I have noticed that pretty much all BMW steering wheels are off set to the drivers seat by an inch or two..

They're not 'all' offset. Some BMWs have quite a large intrusion from the transmission tunnel on account of having a big straight 6 engine mounted well behind the front axle line, but most Audis, VWs etc I've driven don't. And have you ever driven a Porsche 911?? The pedals in the older models were nearer the passenger in rhd cars.....

Audi's aren't offset, but the BMW's are and this is due the transmission and the fact they have a prop shaft running to the rear axle, Mercs are mostly automatics so never noticed it in them. VW and Audi are all FWD unless you opt for the Quattro so the pedals aren't offset.

Off-set pedals is usually a 'side-effect' to the conversion from left hand drive to right hand drive
