bratz dolls?
what do you think? are the bratz dolls a bad influence on little girls because of the way the dolls dress and wear makeup? or is it the parents responsibility to teach proper clothing and make up rules and the dolls are just pretend? big debate around here! and this brings to mind the "valley girl " movies of the 80s, those girls are the moms today, seems to me that they werent too "damaged" by their role models?

It's a little bit of both. The dolls glamorize being scantily clad, which directly corresponds with the female celebrity role models young girls have today. Although it is ultimately the responsibility of the parents to teach their kids what is proper and what is not, I would not allow my children (if I had any) to play with toys that glamorize the improper elements of today's society. Barbie, at least, had a job....multiple ones in fact. Bratz emphasize what? Going to the mall?

It is absolutely the parents responsibility to teach the child how to dress properly. I have 2 daughters, one a teenager and one a tween, and neither of them dress questionably. They are not allowed to show their bellies at any point in time, and if the dress/skort is higher than about an inch above the knee...it goes in the trash. That being said, I allow my younger daughter to play with Bratz dolls. She loves them and definitely understands that real girls should never dress that way or wear makeup (unless she is playing around the house once in a while). As long as they understand that, I don't feel that Bratz have any influence on the child either way. I think a lot of parents pass over what they should be teaching their children by boycotting toys like this. That isn't enough...they have to have an active role in their child's life. Looking at the teen pregnancy rate...without the parents' stepping in and setting reasonable boundaries, it doesn't matter what toys the children are playing with...kids (boys AND girls) are going to get in trouble if the parents don't play an active roll.
