Today's Discussion

Did the Cabbage Patch Kids Dolls in the 80s all have different names?
Or were there repeats on names for different dolls? I liked the cornsilk ones the best...

Of course they did.

I believe they were all given unique names. I had one named Hazel (something or other)....they were all supposed to be like real children with different names.

I never heard of a friend who had a doll with the same name. Mine was Ardella Tilly. I think because they had middle names they could have so many combinations of name. That's a good question though. I wonder if there was a repeat somewhere? Only the maker would know for sure.

Every Cabbage Patch Kid since Coleco started selling them around 1981 (now PlayAlong sells them) has had a different first name/middle name combination. That's why so many of today's CBKs have such unique names--a lot of the more common combinations were already used. For example, I had a Kid named Davey Pete. The Kid I just bought for my niece? Ryleigh Margaret! From USA Today: >>Each Cabbage Patch Kid comes with a birth certificate. "I used an old 1930s baby book to come up with the names," [Cabbage Patch Kid Creator Xavier Roberts] told me in a phone interview from his home in Atlanta. (Today, Play Along uses the Social Security register.) That helps explain why the names of my Kids never mirrored my friends': When was the last time you ran into an Elsa, Kendall or a Benny?>>
