Is it fine to use a small car jack to raise the car then placing 4 jack stands on the frames around?
I don't own or have the money to spent on a 40 dollar large car jack. I have a couple of the small ones that come with the car. Is it fine if I buy 4 jack stands and place them underneath the car after raising it from all four sides. I'm planning to change my oil and I heard the car needs to be raised up but at the same time it must be horizontal.

Good for you DIYer. You don't have to raise the hole car off the ground. I just raise the side that makes the oil run toward the drain plug. This will help in the draining of all the oil.Do use a stand with the single jack. Do not over tighten the drain plug as are easy to strip and does not take a lot to seal. Fill the oil filter about half way with fresh oil before putting on car. This will aid in lubrication when you first start the engine. Place some fresh oil on the gasket also to help in the removal next time. Last thing is to only hand tighten the filter plus a 1/4 turn. Follow this and you will save a lot of money. Have a rag handy while under the car as the old filter wants to get you dirty. LOL. Hope this helps.

****NO**** Think about this for a bit. It's a tragic accident waiting to happen. A car on four narrow base jack-stands will not anywhere near be stable enough for you to safely crawl under it and apply torque to a drain plug, (and so to the rest of the car), with a wrench.

Instead of jack stands, consider ramps. They are safer and will get the vehicle high enough to get under it.
