Many years ago teaching the art of magic was a secretive practice of which professional magicians would only share their secrets among others who were also in the profession.

Over the years many of these closely guarded secrets have been revealed through various media publications including videos demonstrating how some of these magic tricks are done, however, it is still challenging to find the secrets of many magic tricks as the resources are limited and most of these publications are not available in local bookstores or libraries.

Even when you are able to find the magic books that are available they typically contain more magic theory than actual magic tricks and the instructions for the magic that they do contain are often very complicated and difficult to understand.

However, there are a few magic books available written by professional magicians that are easy to comprehend and make it possible for individuals of all ages to quickly and easily learn numerous magic tricks that are used in many professional magic shows. These include the art of reading minds or "mentalism" that has been made popular by illusionists such as David Blaine and Chris Angel.

People of all ages are fascinated by magic that is well performed including card magic, money magic, mind reading, and illusions. Learning magic is also very educational for younger children and teaches them creativity as well as gives them self confidence in their accomplishment.

Magic can also be done anytime and anywhere on the spur of the moment when learning how to do magic with common everyday objects such as paper napkins, wine corks, and eating utensils. Making it yourself is not a good idea. Fanning powder is primarily Zinc Strerate with a few extra special adds. Some Baby Powder could be used as a quick and cheaper substitute, but the real stuff is better. You'll also need a way to apply it to the cards, most brick and mortar stores would provide you with that know how. Check with Magic Inc, Tannens, or Abbotts.
