how do you vent portable ac units with crank or casement windows?
I purchased a home with crank (or casement) windows that open out. I can't figure out how to vent them with a portable AC hose. Any suggestions?

open the window all the way. then use plywood or cardboard to fill the open window. then cut a hole in the plywood or cardboard to accept your AC vent hose.

Mark is right. Sometimes they have a panel that comes with the unit (or you can order) but Mark's idea is the cheapest and would work fine. OK, I'd paint the wood to make it look better.

I agree with the answers here. If you get annoyed with the those portables, they make window units especially for casement windows. Here is just one brand, the first one I clicked on in an online search.
