Cats meow..?
This is actually 2 questions... first one, I just got a new kitten a couple days ago, he's about 7-8 weeks old. When he meows is sounds almost like his voice is "strained"... i've never heard a cat meow like him before, it sounds almost like he has a soar throught and can't talk, because sometimes he'll be trying to meow and nothing comes out. He's going to the vet today, but any one heard of any thing like this thought? Next questions... I have a female cat as well, she is about 7 months old, and really doesn't care for the new kitten yet. I'm confused now because she used to meow ALL the time, and now she doesnt anymore. I mean she would meow if she wanted attention, she wanted to eat, she wanted to sleep, etc. It was almost like she was a little baby. And since I brought home the new kitten 3 days ago, i haven't heard her meow once. Is meowing like a sign of weakness or something? She's not the friendliest of all cats, so is she trying to look tough or something? My female was supposed to get spayed today at 8am, but where I live we got 2 feet of snow last night, so I was unable to bring her this morning. She'll be getting fixed on Thursday now instead

I doubt that you're kitten has a problem with his "meower". :) Some cats are just naturally small-voiced. I've got a little 3-year-old tabby who has never meowed: he makes a high-pitched squeaky sound...so cute! It's good that you're having your vet give your new baby a check-over though. As for your other cat, with a new kitten in her territory, it's not surprising that some changes have occurred. Give her time and she'll adjust. They may eventually become the best of friends!

my kitten was like this very faint squeak, still like it now, some boys cats dont meow loud,or sometimes if they had cold as kitten, but it does not affect them.your other cat will get used to kitten might take a week to settle, but get spryed if not done as will come in heat soon

I would have the vet check your kitten out, but it may not be a problem. I have four cats and each one of them meows differently. One of them barely has a meow, its more a silent thing lol. It may just be normal for that kitty. Also, your older cat is probably just stressed out with the new addition. I'm sure she will go back to "normal" once every one is settled in together.

I've had many cats over the years, and I can assure you the new kitten's meow is not likely a problem. Cats are like people in that they each have their own voice, and I've had a few just like him. One was really funny, because he was this HUGE tomcat type who looked like he would be a tough guy, but when he opened his mouth he sounded like a kitten coming down with laryngitis. There was never anything wrong with him, that was just his voice. As for the other cat, she will probably be fine with a little time. It's an adjustment for her after being the only one for that long, but she will most likely come around. She's still just feeling out the new situation.

this happened to my cat... his meow went raspy for about a week and a half and then just went back to normal. im thinking it was from the cold weather. maybe his throat was sore? maybe that is what is happening to your cat. im not sure about the 2nd question, sorry. my cat does that when shes mad. when shes jealous she stays quiet.
