Today's Discussion

Is there a changing pad that can be reused and easily washed if soiled?
It seems like we're going through so many disposable changing pads that are very very expensive. Does anyone know of a reliable and reusable changing pad that I could wipe down with soapy water and dry easily?

Disposable changing pad? Sometimes I cringe at the waste. I would suggest making one, but I don't know if you are of that bent. Here's a link to one. Making one yourself would cost under $10 (individuals don't get yardage as cheap as corporations).

I had a vinyl-like changing pad that came in my diaper bag that could be wiped down. On my changing table at home I use a blanket with a shelf liner under it (the shelf liner keeps it from sliding around) and throw it in the laundry when dirty.

you can get changing pad covers that are machine washable.

Maybe make your own out of vinyl or other materials, such as a tablecloth cover? One that can be washed easily with a gentle household cleaner such as a gentle Clorox cleaner that is safe to use around babies and food..

these are all washable you just wipe them down. never heard of disposable ones? and for on the go changing mats my sister has a thin mat (that can roll up as small as a cloth) and has a soft fluffy side and a plastic side, so you can change and wipe on that.

Yes, there are plenty of them. You can just wipe them down. I got mine with a free diaper bag promotion thing but I have seen many around Wal-mart.

Sorry but I think it's funny to put a cover over a changing pad. I mean the pad itself is vinyl and easily cleanable. If it's too cold for the baby, just throw a receiving blanket under them and wash it when it gets dirty. Also just about every diaper bag I was given came with a changing pad, lay one of those down.

I suggest buying a changing pad (and covers). This is the one we have: Otherwise, Target and Babies R Us sell vinyl changing mats.

What we did was get a heavy duty vinyal tablecloth from the dollar store. You know the ones with the felt material on the back? I cut it into pieces and kept them stragetically placed around the house. 1 in the diaper bag, one in the glove compartment of the car. 1 in the bedroom. It worked great. It was waterproof, wiped clean easily and as a bonus the felt backing kept it from sliding all around when trying to change a squirmy baby in a public restroom or in the back of a car.

Why not just use a cloth diaper? They are very absorbent and washable.

There are disposable changing pads? I just have a whole whack of the machine washable ones. There are three main kind (that I have noticed) 1) Plastic vinyl with a fuzzy back (much like some disposable table cloths but these are washable)/ 2) Really thick plastic/vinyl on both sides with a heavy fabric ribbon around the edges (these are easiest to wipe with a cloth) 3) Soft cotton layer and a layer of plastic sewn together. The soft cotton is very nice as it isn't cold BUT can't be wiped so you need a bunch. *lol* I've never even bought any. I got about 50 handed down to me. My diaper bag came with one, etc.

babies r us sells some waterproof pads that I use, and when soiled you can just throw them in the washer and dryer. I have about 3 and they work great!!
