Chenille is a style of weave design, so can be made up of many different kinds of materials--including polyester, cotton, whatever. Reading labels is what you'll need to do...chenille is style, not substance! I've had chenille all-cotton bedspreads forever--but their labels all say "100% cotton". At this early stage, your infant really doesn't have "design control" in his/her life--so go for safety & practicality and forget about the 'night-night' having to be one thing or another. A few little whimps won't kill the kid as much as plastic will!

How old is your baby? I am under the impression that no blanket is safe in a crib with an infant because they can get tangled and suffocate. .

I use the Babesafe cover too!! Chenille is not 100% cotton. Use a super-sized 100% cotton bath towel. It took me a while to figure that one out! I just wanted to make sure you understand that the cotton blanket goes between the mattress cover and the mattress sheet. Babies shouldn't sleep with blankets in their cribs.
