try krud kutter or goof off from the home depot. Krud Kutter is used to remove latex paint... If you have a clear polyurethane sealant on it, be careful when using krud kutter. It's used to remove water based paints and stains...

Try Vegetable Oil...it will saturate the paper and wont' harm the finish...I would leave it on for a few days and treat it a few times and eventually it should ease the paper off of the wood.

I like "tynett's" idea but you may want to substitute lemon oil. Soak a cloth and place it on the paper, cover with some plastic wrap, to seal the oil against evaporation, and cover it with something flat and fairly heavy. Don't go crazy with the weight, you are only trying to ensure 100% contact with the paper. Wait a few days and see what you have. BTW, don't use water on wood, it causes swelling and shrinking which cracks the finish destroying the finish's ability to protect the wood. Good luck.
