Mary Cassatt American, 1844-1926 The Child's Bath, 1893 vs. Georgia O'Keeffe American, 1887-1986 Cow's Skull with Calico Roses, 1931 and how, as two women artists from a couple of generations apart, explored radically different themes, one of lush, nurturing interiors and one of desolate, weathered exteriors. Both coded as feminine (look at the calico!), one focused on a more sublimated, domestic world of women and children and the other on a more sensual and independent world of a woman who is sharply aware she is a woman in a man's world.
