For a 4 year old I would go to Toys R us and buy a first act guitar.It smaller, less expensive, and comes with picks that are a little larger and easier for a child. Onc he gets basic concepts down then I'd switch over to a real one.

Unfortunately at that age, his fingers probably aren't quite long enough to get around a standard neck. My daughter is almost 8, and she can just now get her fingers wrapped around the little 1/4 size guitar I got her a couple of years ago (just a cheap one). If you really want him to get started playing a stringed instrument - I might suggest looking at some mandolins or ukeleles. Both have much smaller bodies - and considerably smaller neck radii, which could allow little hands to play much easier. Then just switch up to a guitar whenever his fingers get a bit longer. I've been playing guitar and bass for over half my life (i actually started out on piano - i still keep a moog synth around too!!!). It's definitely a good stress reliever - as well as a great way of making friends, and entertaining yourself as well as other people! Good luck!!
