Selecting a Child Gift Basket

When choosing a child gift basket, there are a wide variety of choices you have - whether you are purchasing one or making it yourself. If you choose to make your own, you can do this relatively inexpensively by shopping at your local dollar store for the smaller items. When selecting your gift basket you'll want to keep in mind the age, gender, and interests of the child.

Some ideas for a child gift basket include themed baskets such as sports, a favorite movie or cartoon, video game, or music. For a sports gift basket you can include trading cards, a poster of their favorite player or team, and sports action figure.

For movie and television baskets you can include things like a video, popcorn, movie posters, cartoon themed books, and cartoon characters. For video game baskets, controllers, skins, and accessories for their favorite game are all great ideas. You can also choose from a variety of educational or creativity baskets which can include puzzles, building blocks, books, crayons, coloring books, and stickers.

Some different types of containers for a child gift basket, other than the traditional plastic or wicker basket, are a  sand pail, toy wagon, tote bag, large popcorn bucket, backpack, or  toy dump truck. For gift baskets that include food, you may want to select from a variety of healthier options instead of the traditional candy such as, fruit, multi grain bars, natural and organic snacks.

Today's Discussion

Is it appropriate to send a child a gift basket after their parent dies?

Send her a condolence letter telling her that she is in your thoughts and if she needs to talk or just a hug, that you're always going to be there for her. A teddy at the funeral to help comfort her is okay, but a gift basket is a bit...crass.

I think your thoughts and your time would be more appreciated and needed. Any gifts would be a reminder of their loss. What the child needs is hugs, reassurance and friends committed to their on-going well being. Hugs too.

I think a gift basket is in poor taste, I would say nothing would be better than perhaps a nice pic of their parent in a frame, when the time is right, but nothing for now. No presents

Ash
It depends on what you put in the gift basket. I assume you are talking about a young child, under 10 years old. Maybe put in some of their favorite toys/book/candy/games you know that they like. That way they are familiar with these things and they can take comfort in knowing you care about them. Otherwise, I'd just send this child a stuffed animal that they can hold and offer your hugs and kisses of support.
