"The New Crib Standard" Just curious about what you ladies think?
Ok, this is kinda long. I am wondering if any of you know this new law/rule that will take effect on June 28 2011 and if you do know, what are your thoughts? I'm due one June 5 and I was doing a lot of research on cribs and making sure none of the ones i liked were being recall and when i was in the cpsc website, i came upon this new rule. Beginning June 28, 2011, all cribs manufactured and sold (including resale) must comply with new and improved federal safety standards. The new rules, which apply to full-size and non full-size cribs, prohibit the manufacture or sale of traditional drop-side rail cribs, strengthen crib slats and mattress supports, improve the quality of hardware and require more rigorous testing. Does this mean that all cribs, including the ones that don't have the drop-side rail are going to be taken out of the stores and replaced with the new ones that comply with the new safety rules? I'm kinda confused. Here's the website if any of you want to read about it Btw, I posted this question here since almost all of us in here are expecting and buying cribs soon or already bought. *I'm due on June 5 2011

I have no idea if they're going to do a recall on all the current cribs and replace them or not, but I do know that I like the new standard for no drop sides. The news rules for cribs are for the safety of the baby. It may be more convenient to have a drop side, it's easier for parents. But Anything to reduce the chances of your baby getting hurt is a plus. So I'm happy with the new standards.

Can't take it anymore
They change the standards every few years. I don't know how the stores work it out, but I'm assuming a few month before it's mandatory they quit buying the cribs that will no longer be within standards and start buying the new, and the manufacturer's probably started making the new standard a few months ago.
