is there any u.k law giving cross bows a limited firing power with out a licence ?
i have a 175lb cross bow given to me but i cant go to an archery range because it need to be re-tuned to 65lb and im just wondering is there a limit to the power it can have before id need a firearms licence?

Hope not. Recall that there have been individuals who used their crossbow to defend themselves and their property against residential break-ins. This by felons who ignored the laws against having firearms.

So long as you are at least 18 years old, not "hunting" and on private land using target points as opposed to broadheads, you're good to go! It seems they're popular because of the gun ban.
