Today's Discussion

What color or style I should choose for prom if my date's dress is white?
Although my date had already picked out her dress, I find it difficult to pick out the color and style that matches the white dress, because I want to use the classic black and white combo, but then the cummerbund, tie, and all the other accessories won't match with the white. Suggestions please?

You could opt for black cummerbund and tie. Or, if you're going to give her a flower that's a specific color, you could get everything to match that. Run it by your date and see what she'd prefer.

The best thing to do is to ask her. Tell her what you are planning on wearing ( the classic black/white tux) and she what she suggests.

a classic penguin tux is, I think, the cutest thing you can wear to prom. I had a blue dress and my bf wore a black-and-white tux with bow tie and cummerbund, and I thought it was great.. there's no pressure to match exactly this way, plus he stood out from all the other guys. and it made me feel a little bit more glamorous. (: anyway, it matches your date fine. hahah another tip: bring your date to men's wearhouse or wherever with you and she can pick.

Just my humble opinion, but if your brave enough, I think you should opt to wear a kilt outfit. The whole deal. Opt for the Black Watch tartan. kilt sporran socks shoes prince charlie jacket sgain dhu bow tie All you'll need is the white shirt. And I would give a safe bet that you'll be wearing a crown if you turn up wearing that. Look for kilt renters in your area.

I thought most cummerbund and ties are black? And the white shirt wil match with her dress. To break up all that black and white, get a dark red rose coursage and boutenier. Very classic.

you can definitely wear a black & white combination. you can wear a black cummerbund and tie OR you can wear a white cummerbund and white tie (though i suspect the latter cummerbund/tie combo is more for very formal galas). if you have access to a saks fifth avenue, neiman marcus, nordstrom or other really upscale large department store where they sell men's formal wear, ask one of the associates in the men's department; they can definitely help you and you are not obligated to buy anything in exchange for their advice. my guess is that the black cummerbund and tie will be perfect; you can give your date a red or pink flower. consult your date on this, and if you do end up going to a department store, take your date with you so that she can give her input and is aware of what you plan to wear on prom night.
