why is my well pump is short cycling? I have a shallow well (about 6 ft) with a jet pump. A couple weeks ago it started short cycling. I went to check the tank pressure and water came out, so I replaced the storage tank. Water no longer comes out and i know i have it at the right pressure (26psi), but that didn't take care of the cycling problem. It seems like the switch is kicking on and off at the right time, but once it kicks off I hear this loud "wooshing sound", and the pressure drops back down to 35psi or so immediately. then if water is still running it will quickly kick back on as it soon reaches 30psi again. it is almost acting like the storage tank isn't even filling up because the pump runs on for about 10 sec, then off for about 4 seconds or so as the "whooshing"sound happens, then it just keeps repeating until the water is turned off. any ideas? maybe a bad foot valve or check valve somewhere? this is my first house with a well system, so it is all new to me. Thanks a bunch!
