Dish 5 :: Cut Price Dish 5 Guidance

Is $30 under the table for 5 and a half hours of dish-washing too low?
The restaurant I work at has just opened for dinner and they needed me to come help them out. I washed dishes for 5 and a half hours and got paid $30 cash. I was just wondering if that is too low, or if it is an okay amount to be paid. Thank you.

That's about $5.45 an hour. The question is,. was your time worth that amount to you?

minimum wage is currently 7.25 an hour. so if you were paid by check, with taxes taken out (which is around 18%), you'd get 5.5 x 7.25= about 40 bucks, then with taxes 40 x .82= $32.80. so no, thats about the right amount.

It's illegal, but assuming you don't care I'd say it's decent pay for the work done. Just know that if you get hurt you're screwed, you wont be covered by workers comp and you could be in real trouble if the place gets busted for paying under the table.

Do you normally make more than $5.45 an hour? I'm sure you do as that's not even minimum wage after taxes. If its a one time helping a friend thing then maybe its alright. Getting cash I'd want at least another dollar an hour if they expect you to keep working.

Tax free, its ok. But its definately below minimum wage. And its pretty much illegal. I'd ask for $40-$50.
