How are/were Disney prints made?

Are you talking about transparencies they use in the animated movies? Those are made at Disney studios..or at least they were. They probably have slave labor in china doing them now. Basically they paint each movement on a transparent film in layers. for example the background would be done on one piece, then the main action sequence on another that lays on top. When you buy a "print" you are buying a part of the movie. When I lived in Washington DC several years ago , there was a well known gallery there that specialized in those, sorry I forget the name but it was in Georgetown, hope that helps.

The "prints" are called cels. They used to be inked (painted) pieces of celluloid or acetate (clear vinyl). The ink is called cel vinyl. Each piece of acetate has one or two objects on it. Then the acetate is layered to create depth. They no longer do this. It's all done by computers now. The cels you see in gift shops are production pieces, meaning they were made to be sold and were not made in the movie process.

The best Disney print will be found at Disney World or thier web site for online orders. The prints are done onsite at Disney World and they are the best quality. Disney World has stores for prints only, but they are expensive.
