there no to bad , the tensioner pulley may go bad , it is a pain to replace , watch the head gasket for leaks , i had one it was not a bad car at all ,

Not good; both 4cyl and v6's have a tendency to blow head gaskets. If it has a 4 speed auto transmission, they have a tendency to fail.

As with any older vehicle with over 100K on it, it will all depend on how it was taken care of. The 4 cyls are prone to headgasket leaks and the 6 cyls had a problem of the exhaust valve guides slipping and allowing oil into the cylinders. We repaired most of those years ago. Both are timing belt engines and should have been replaced by now. If you don't know, have it checked. Of course, you didn't say which model Spirit you bought. 1991 had the Spirit R/T which had a Lotus Head Turbocharged 4 cylinder and a five-speed. The ones I drove were screamers.
