I think electronic drum sets are better for recording. You won't have a lot of the problems you have with recording an acoustic kit. There tends to be bleed over when you mic up an acoustic set. With electric, you'll have a straight line from each instrument into the computer. It will be more expensive for a good electronic kit though, one that is super responsive. You'll also want one that has high quality samples. Some electronic drums sound horrible, but the higher end models use "real" instrument samples instead of computer produced representation. So...yes they can be as good or even better.
