The two most common types of eating disorders are anorexia and bulimia nervosa affecting two to three out of one hundred women in the United States. It is also estimated that approximately fifty percent of all individuals know someone who has some type of eating disorder.

An eating disorder is also a mental illness and has the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses and disorders. It is also estimated that only one out of every ten individuals who suffer from an eating disorder will obtain treatment for their illness.

Treatment for an eating disorder is extremely expensive and not covered by most health insurance companies. In the United States the average cost for treatment of someone who has an eating disorder is five hundred to two thousand dollars per day and the estimated inpatient cost is approximately thirty thousand dollars per month.

Approximately eighty percent of young girls and women who attempt to seek professional help for their condition do not receive the proper form of treatment are sent home often weeks earlier than is recommended in order to maintain any progress that was made.

Fortunately, many individuals have been successful in treating a loved one with this condition at home when all other methods of treatment have failed or they simply could no longer afford the medical expenses. One of the primary reasons for their success was in educating themselves about everything there is to know about this disorder including the methods of treatment that have been most effective in others who have been able to successfully overcome their condition. Hey I live in GA! I have been to Ridgeview eating disorder unit 3 times. They have an inpatient program and a partial hospitalization program. www.ridgeviewinstitute.com It is pretty good if you can stay there long enough. My insurance always stopped covering me before it was recommended I leave. It is located in Smyrna GA which is north of ATL. Where are you located? If you are more north there is a program in Chattanooga, TN that is good. Let me know if you have specific questions about the Ridgeview ED program! starfishkk@msn.com
