Eliminating the emission equipment from a 1992 Ford Thunderbird 302 V8?
What do i need to do to remove the emission equipment from a 1992 ford EFI v8? Will the computer need to be re calibrated or will it figure it out? I am planning on keeping the 02 sensors since they help meter the fuel and economy, but would like to eliminate the smog pump if possible, for performance gains. (there are no smog inspections where i live)

Why do you want to remove the emission equipment? I'd recommend not touching it unless it can't pass smog, and if that's the case, I would recommend taking it to a mechanic you trust.

most of it is integral with the computer and electronics and a real pain to change it would be like going to a carburetor system. Do you really want to go back to poor mileage and rough running engine? you will have to fool the computer in thinking the sensors are still there

As said why do you want to do this. Is there a problem you are trying to avoid repairing? Since it is all tied together it would not be easy to do.

Although there may be no smog inspections in your area, ALL automobiles must be equipted with the federalized smog equipment. To remove that equipment is a federal offense and is punishable by fine and jail time. If you were to be stopped in say California and the CHP officer wanted to be a less than nice person you could end up with a very very expensive ticket. Any other states the same thing is true -- if they wanted to be -- highway patrol could go as far a impounding your car for non compliance. Besides all that your car will not run correctly because the sensors will see an imbalance in the exhaust air mix and throw the whole system off. Just not worth the effort.
