Today's Discussion

Anyone have a review of the Epic E 950 Elliptical?
I was looking at the Horizon EX-44 elliptical (and still #1 on my list) but I found the Epic brand online with a model that offers an adjustable stride (18-20") length and adjustable incline (10-30%), but I have been unable to find any reviews of the machine. Further research discovered that they are manufactured by Icon Health & Fitness ( ) whose brands include Nordictrack, Weider, Pro-Form, Healthrider, Reebok, Golds Gym and others. In fact it looks like it is being branded under Reebok too as the Reebok RL 900 Elliptical. I found the machine at this link: Has anyone bought/used the machine and if so do you have any insight you can offer? I like the concept of the adjustable incline and 18-20" stride length but I don't like to jump in a pool without checking for water first.

In general, any of the product made by Icon Fitness is going to be of a lower quality, even the higher priced units. Based on what I see here in our service/repair shop, the units tend to last under a year before needing major fixes. The Reebok units used to be great, but once Icon took them over the quality dropped immensely. The adjustable stride on the Epic is iffy at best..it's built to try and duplicate what SportsArt does with their adjustable ellipticals, but with lower grade parts and manufacturing. I'd say avoid the Epic and stick with Horizon, New Balance (although the units are very long), Spirit or even Schwinn. -The Treadmill Sensei www.treadmillsensei.com
