Today's Discussion

How much do really nice leather executive chairs cost?
I'm looking into buying one, and I was wonder what I would expect to pay for a nice chair, preferably larger and high-backed with plush leather cushions. I obviously want a comfortable one, but I don't think i'd be wanting to spend $1,000. I think if I spent $1,000 on a chair, i'd hope it was a throne.

Depends on whether you want a really nice one or a knock off. They would start at about $1,000 for quality leather. And you really don't want to buy cheap chair because of comfort. I wouldn't buy online UNLESS you have checked out the same model in an actual store. This is because every chair fits every body differently. You want something that works with you. Also, the shipping charges could be HUGE.

The prototypical high backed leather executive chair to me is the "Herman Miller Soft Pad Executive Chair". This is one of the models of the Charles and Ray Eames designed Aluminum Group chairs. They're routinely seen in movies and on TV including on one or more of the news channels( MSNBC, CNN etc.). New these cost around $3200. They've been in production for quite a while though, so it's possible to buy them used at a better price, maybe around a $1000 on Ebay. If your in an area that has used furniture stores that carry modern furniture, or stores that carry used office furniture you could check these. I recommend this chair because it tends to be incredibly comfortable, ergonomic, very well made, and well supported by the manufacturer( they're willing to reupholster the chairs for a fee).
