A Folding Coffee Table Provides Extra Space When You Need It

A folding coffee table can come in handy when you have guests and need extra seating for everyone.

When not needed, a folding table slips out of the way, where it is always on standby when the need arises.

There are various kinds of folding coffee tables; some of them are small and suitable for use in front of a couch or chair. Others are large enough to seat four people around for a meal.

These pieces of furniture fold in different and interesting ways. The most basic is simply when the legs fold up to make the table flat so it can be stored under the couch or against the wall in the garage.

Another folding coffee table, like the one sold on Amazon, actually folds into the shape of a suitcase so you can carry it with you for a picnic. Folding coffee tables are made of wood or metal.

They can be expensive or economical depending upon the materials used and the quality of construction. They are versatile and come in handy for a variety of uses. No home should be without at least one folding coffee table.

Today's Discussion

Anyone know of a folding coffee table?
I am on the hunt for a coffee table, but because I'm in a very small space, it need to be something which adapts. I need it to be able to fold flat in order to be able to be stored behind an Ikea Solsta couch (it's a sofa bed). I'm looking, but haven't really found anything at all, so if you know of a product that fits this description and is extremely affordable ($100 or less), I'd love it if you could pass along your knowledge. Thanks much!

Try doing a search on line. I just did and found quite a few, however they were all for camping.

You might need to look outside the box here. Start looking for something that is not already a coffee table. Maybe an older wood folding table. You could shorten the legs.Another option is to find a table that you like, then take off the legs & reattach with locking hinges (found at any hardware store) so you can fold it down. On a whole other page you could buy a few sturdy ottomans & purchase a tray so you have a hard surface to put drinks on. You would still be able to move the ottomans out of the way when you needed space plus it gives you extra seating.

There are many folding tables available at walmart, target, rite aid, cvs, and sams and in your price range. They are oblong in shape and are adjustable in height. You would probably want to use a tablecloth for appearance sake to cover up the plastic look. There is a cheaper way to get a coffee table. You need to buy a piece of plexiglass(available at Lowes ,Home Depot etc.) the width and length that you want. This will be the top of your table & when not in use it is thin enough to go any place. Now all you need are supports for your table. You can use one large planter in the middle or 2 smaller ones at the ends. Or what my sister did is she used some books and made two stacks putting the books with the most interesting covers on top and then put the plexiglass on top of that. This last idea was seen in a decorating magazine .
