Today's Discussion

What is different about Free & Clear products?
I'm trying to transition out of using the expensive Shaklee products (even though I love them so much) and into other, cheaper alternatives. I've decided that Seventh Generation is a pretty great alternative, and I understand that Free & Clear and Seventh Generation are the same company, but what is the difference between their products?

I sent you an email. Basically the Free & Clear things aren't supposed to have tox chems such as phthalates, BPA & fragrances but there's a lot of fake companies out there. You have to read & research ingredients against the EWG.org site or google for toxcity (since the EWG site, formerly cosmeticsdatabase.com has changed so much it's now super hard to understand). Last time I checked there were bad things about 7th Generation but I can't recall. Basically if it's sold at Vons, Ralphs, Albertson's or Publix, I don't really trust the brand. Health food stores have the best brands but double check. I like the ONE soaps (Br Bronner's, liquid, solid) Dr Woods are ok too. The website I gave you via email discloses all the ingredients plus has customer reviews to make an informed choice. Hope you like it.

I personally make a lot of my own cleaners, I'm not paranoid about germs, so I don't need to have hospital grade cleaning products. I do use some of the 7th generation products, but I prefer the Ecover brand. From what I can see Free & Clear is just their new marketing strategy. It depends on what you are trying to avoid and as another person mentioned the EWG is a great source to know the risks of chemicals in products. As I said I make a lot of my own products which is dramatically cheaper than buying them. I use white vinegar, castille soap and baking soda as my primary cleaning products. I love the book Green up your clean up, it has great information about which products both homemade and store bought work well for various purposes.
