Yes he did, in fact He offered freedom from the rituals themselves, yet few believed Him and continue to do so. Thanks for sharing.

Religions far more ancient than Christianity can and do bring joy to many people. I won't ask what you're talking about, because I'm sure you don't know.

Jesus never created religious rituals. Rather, he followed the Jewish rituals of his ancestors and was the source of inspiration of future rituals created by human zealots. Nonetheless, it is true that rituals can have a very therapeutic effect on people, which is why they have continued for centuries.

Religious rituals give people a sense of control and power over their relationship with God. You preform a act so that you can say, "OK God, you owe me..." Jesus doesn't want us to work for Him or His father. He wants us to be in a relationship with HIm where we do His bidding, but we do it with the idea that we can trust Him and that He blesses us without having to earn those blessings. Religious rituals keeps us away from God; not draws us near.

Like Old Testament rituals? Well, if I'm not mistaken, Jesus took part in all the rituals of His religion. Then after Him, Christianity did away with those old rituals. (It would have been new wine in old bags). So He brought freedom from the rituals. If those rituals caused anxiety, then I guess the answer to your question would be yes. But first, we'd have to determine if the religious rituals actually caused anxiety. -------- Linda, Jesus instituted a ritual as found in Luke 22:19. The ritual of consuming bread in remembrance of Him is one of the things He says brings us closer to Him.
