2002 gmc envoy front drive axle bearing?
i'm working on a gmc chevy envoy (2002) the front drive axle bearing is broken, is this a hard job? i went up under the truck and the inside of the axle moves up and down in the case about 3 inches! is the axle part of the engine crank case? it looks likethe axle is in the engine. is there something else in the case i need to worry about? i hate to take this apart and find out the job is a little more than i expected.

there are very few steps remove the wheel and the caliper and the rotor, now there are three torx head bolts and the center 32mm nut. the bearing and hub is built as an assembly . Take a look at the new part

what you have is a worn front drive axle intermediate shaft bearing assembly. It's on right inner of the axle, the 4x4 actuator is bolted to it. the bearing assembly is bolted to the oil pan with 4 bolts. OK now to replace it, remove the right side axle from the vehicle, remove the intermediate shaft bearing (4 bolts 15mm),remove the actuator bolts from the bearing. sometimes it's very hard for the bearing to come out, try pulling & turning at the same time, If every attempt to remove it has been exhausted with no success, here's what you do. Remove only the outer part of the housing , that's the part that has the bearing in it, and leave the inner half in the truck. Now do the same with the new housing that you've purchased, seperate the two halves, and bolt on the outer half. reinstall actuator and axle. Hope I didn't complicate things for you, but I gave you both scenarios should you need it. good luck. Done many (sometimes they come out easy and other times the don't)

Go with Jesse, As you can see these vehicles have a very different design than older Blazer's and Jimmy's. That shaft does go through the oil pan, but it is like a tunnel not actually exposed to the oil. Just like with any other job you do that is not done every day, take special note how you remove everything and you'll be fine.

The front hub – as used in the company's downhill wheels – is compatible with both 15mm and 20mm axles (with a change of adaptor), and the rear hub is available to suit 142x12mm and 135mm options, putting them firmly in the all-mountain ballpark.
