Pull it out of the tank and inspect it. You can test with an ohm meter by hooking up the lead and operating the lever if the ohms change smoothly its good to go.

Try putting 12 volt supply to it. Should be the white wire.

hi there it is relatively easy to check out. the wires going into the sender unit, one is the fee from fuel guage the other is either the low fuel warning light if you have one or earth wireyou can test to see if fuel guage is working by joining a bit of wire to the two wires seperately. your fuel guage and wiring are ok if you see the fuel guage going to full take out the sender unit and with the wires connected to unit just lift up the float arm by doing that the fuel guage should rise. nine times out of ten it is the sender unit that is at fault. jock

Run a wire between the two wires, the fuel gauge should run up to full. If it does not then there is a problem with the wiring between the sender and the gauge in the dash. Try removing the clocks and check to make sure that the multi pin connector at the rear of the clocks has not melted or fell out. Ja.
