Today's Discussion

Can anyone tell me why these new energy saving globes Don't last any where near as long as the old style globe

Because the electronic components to fire the globe are cheap and nasty and have poor ventilation for the heat build up. They would last longer if they were mounted facing the globe up and not hanging down.

They're probably made in China try to find ones made by the blind here in the US, They last along time really like the Greenies claim, 5 years

They don't take being turned on and off a lot very well. If you turn one on and just leave it on, it will last longer than a regular old light bulb. But each time you turn it off and back on, it shortens the life a little bit. And never use one of these bulbs with a dimmer switch, because the way dimmers work is to turn the light on and off may times a second. The ons and offs are so fast that your eye doesn't notice, and your eye just thinks the light is on all the time but dimmer.

I haven't had any problem with them. I've got curlycue flourecents that have been working for 4 years. I'm also not worrying about the mercury issue with them. When I was a kid we had to use mercury thermometers. I know at least a few of them broke in my mouth. Mom just tossed them out.
