See the explanation of the one to your other answer about horses. Wolf, horse, cat, bird.... same dog, different collar. Natural selections works the same way on any living thing.

Excellent senses of smell, sight and hearing for communication and hunting purposes. Pack behaviour- allows them to take down animals larger than themselves, which is of great value to a wolf pack as a large carcass of say, a moose will sustain a wolf pack for up to a week. The heirarchy ensures that the fittest, strongest wolves are most likely to pass on their genes, as the alpha male and female are usually the only wolves that successfully raise cubs, since they get priority on a kill. Wolves have excellent stamina, which aids them when hunting large prey, which they run to exhaustion and disembowel. Sharp canine teeth, like other carnivores, allows the wolf to get a firm grip on a prey animal, decreasing the prey's chances of getting away. The molars and premolars are sharp and slide over one another, allowing the animal to scrape meat off the bone.
