What things should I look for when I pick my car up from the body shop?
I am supposed to get my car back tomorrow. I smashed the center of the whole front end. Bumper, grill, hood, radiator, fuel injectors, . . . . . (over $7000 in damage). What do I need to know when I go to get my car? Thanks!!!!

See if the car looks good then drive away it that simple.

First thing with a bill like that you better ask if any of the body shop guys are single....? (jk) lol Take a qualified person with you would be my advice. Sometimes we miss important things......Good Luck! ♥♥♥

I am not sure how to check it when it is cold, but I am aware of a similar situation (front end accident and repair in the winter) where the A/C didn't work, and by the time it was discovered the body shop and insurance company wouldn't do anything.

What kind of car do you have where the fuel injectors are in the front of the car? I'm pretty sure they're usually in the middle to the back of the engine compartment.

Trade it in on a new car as soon as possible!

you should look to see if it looks complete, & make sure everything works the way it used to. I were you id drive it around the streets & test everything out brakes, acceleration, lights wipers, blinkers, ac, & make sure its smooth & doesnt make any funny noises or that it overheats or leaks anything & also make sure your steering is good & that it doesnt pull to one side or shake when you brake (stuff like that) id drive it slowly & listen for noises & feel the way it drives on streets & then id take it on the frwy for further testing.

Good question to ask.... 1. Don't wait till they are just ready to close. Make sure you go as early as possible and don't let your ride leave till you give them the " go ahead ". 2. Make sure it is during the day with good lighting so you can see just how well the color match worked and the body panels line up. All of the seams should be the same both sides and front. ie ( where the hood meets the fenders ). 3. Look at the paint very closely and take your sweet old time doing this. Have the person that drove you to the shop look it over too. 4. Get into your car and make sure the blinkers work, the horn and that no engine lights are on. Check everything you can. Why, because the battery was disconnected and the computer was shut down for quite some time, I'm sure. I'll just stop here.... but the bottom line is that this is your big chance to accept it or reject it. Don't sign off on the car until you have done this check. If you are not happy, don't drive it away, make sure you address the situation right then and there. THIS IS YOUR BABY.... If you do find something on the way home, turn back and leave it back with the shop. Don't let time go by...( make sure your ride follows you home or as close as possible as can ). Just in case... You can do all of this while remaining friendly to the owner. Hopefully somebody comes out to go over the car with you if you have any questions what so ever. By the way, the first thing you should do is start the car up so it's up to operating temperature before you leave. If any mechanical problems exist, that's when they will show their faces..... Good Luck with your repaired car... I'm sure you will be fine... ( Again, take your sweet old time looking it over )....

Get in and test the shocks babe. LOL! Look for cigarette butts in the ash tray. Make sure all your stuff is still in there. Just make sure it looks ok, as in you cant tell you had anything done.

I can not answer any better than the person above me. Just make sure whoever you take knows something about cars.

if the body looks good, front then drive it check to see if any antifreeze is any where, leaks small, does the engine smell ok, no funny odors, does the car run good, doesnt shake, stall, run funny, your question is hard to answer, taking someone with you, might help if you have no knowledge of cars. good luck.

Visually, I would check color match. A good quality shop will be able to match it so you won't be able to see any minute difference with the naked eye. Then I would check for fit and finish. Do the parts fit together nicely? Finally, how does it ride? I would drive it around town and see if it pulls to one side or the other both while driving and braking. Do the same at highway speeds...make sure it doesn't pull to either side when you are driving. Over the next several months, keep a close eye on your tires. Make sure any wear is evenly and normal. If you notice any strange wear patterns, then you have something out of whack--most likely correctable with a front-end alignment.

I have to agree with Elayne. I don't see how your fuel injector could have been damaged.

well you may be a bit late to ask. there is a lot to look for when you receive a repaired car. have all of the parts and pieces listed really been replaced does the paint match do the edges of the parts line up correctly? does the car track like it should, are there any unusual noises from the vehicle . do you feel good about the work or quality of the work? i am a very critical person sometimes and a repair i would pound into the ground i am afraid.tmm good luch and best wishes

Hi Penny make sure all the panels line up correctly all the gaps are uniform check the paint for color match ,look from all angles, check paint for dirt by feeling it check that the shine is the same .look for dull spots open the hood look for hammer marks to see if the shop straitened or replaced all the right parts , read and make the shop guy explain each part that was fixed or replaced make him point them out.

happywjc
An itemized repair bill!!!! That's the things that were fixed! Then check the car over carefully, "very carefully!!!! Make sure everything that was superposed to be fixed, was in fact fixed!! Check the quality of the work, even lines hood, doors, fenders, etc., some of this stuff will be hard to check as it will be hidden underneath! Makes "Make sure", you get a written "written warranty of the repair! Have another mechanic check the work, it may cost you $20 or so, BUT it will be worth it in the long run!!

Just take it to another shop and get it inspected by an expert.
