Studies have shown that there are many different impurities in water, and some of these can be filtered out using an iron water filter.

Water filters are each designed for many different things; however, most standard water filters do not filter the entire impurities well.

Some of them leave behind certain impurities such as ferric and ferrous iron, as well as manganese and hydrogen sulfide.

However, iron water filters are specialty filters that focus primarily on the filtration of heavy metals from the water.

These minerals are filtered out by use of manganese green sand filtration unit that oxidizes the metallic impurities allowing them to solidify and then be filtered away with a standard mechanical filter.

These iron water filters can greatly reduce the amount of metallic impurities in the water and can also give the water a better taste. However, iron water filters do not filter out all of the impurities in water. They only filter out metals.

This can also be remedied, though. Some manufacturers have recently released iron and charcoal combination filters that cover both iron filtration and standard mineral filtration. If you are interested in an iron water filter, you can find them in retail stores, as well as online markets like Amazon.

Today's Discussion

I use well water with a potassium permanganate iron filter. Good for 9 yrs. Now water has a terrible odor. Why
Filter removes both kinds of iron from water. Then water enters house thru hot water heater, then dispersed throughout house. Terrible smelly odor when it comes out of tap. Any reason this would happen after 9 years of good water?

Sounds as if your water has been contaminated by sulfur in the aquifer. It can happen, unfortunately. Best have someone come out and test your water, you might need to have a new well dug.

is it just the hot or both?? anything new added to the system?? replace that filter? when was the tank last flushed out to remove any sediments at the bottom???

Try changing the filter. No filter is designed to be good for 9 years.
