Kitchen area rugs turn your house into a home. There is nothing that makes your kitchen look cozier than a cute kitchen rug in front of the sink.

These rugs not only add your personal sense of style to the kitchen, they can also serve a purpose as well.

Kitchen area rugs are usually placed in areas of the kitchen where you spend a lot of time standing, like in front of the sink and in front of the stove.

A padded rug can give your feet and legs some comfort.

Kitchen area rugs also provide warmth on those cold winter mornings when you walk barefoot into the kitchen to put on a pot of coffee.

If you have dogs or cats, they will enjoy curling up on a warm and fuzzy kitchen rug. Kitchen area rugs come in different shapes, like rectangular, oval, or round. A popular shape for kitchen rugs is the half moon shape, also called a rug slice.

It looks like a circle cut in half and the straight side snuggles up against the stove or baseboard. These rugs usually have cute designs like pictures of food, or a steaming cup of coffee.

No matter what your kitchen decorating theme is, ducks, roosters, or contemporary, you are sure to find kitchen area rugs that will fit right in.

Today's Discussion

how do i temporarily cover up my kitchen floor?
I am renting so I cannot permanently do anything.. The floor is old and has deep scratches in alot of places its old rolled out kitchen flooring. Since i dont want to cut out, I would like to do the middle of floor and leave a border of old floor. Any suggestions would help, I don't have alot of money, but willing to put enough money into it to make it decent to live. Also what do people think about area rugs in kitchen?

I would go with some larger rugs, get ones that have a backing so they don't slide around.

Go to home depot and grab some Vinyl composite tiles (VCT). You can get some that have tacky backs so you don't have to use glue. They range anywhere from .60 cents to $3.50 per square foot tile. Later when you move out, just pull them up. There may be some glue residue, but you can get that up pretty easy with a cleaning solution. Either that or get a small area rug.

Go to Home Depot and look at the flooring they have which is tiles or planks that adhere to each other but not to the floor itself. You could make yourself a mat of these, hold it down with a little outdoor carpet tape on the edges if you need to. It's about$2/sf. Maybe your landlord will spring for buying new flooring if you install it, and this stuff is easy to install, minimal tools needed. I can't stand carpet in a kitchen, it gets so dirty so fast.
