Many individuals are now enjoying the convenience that laptops offer when it comes to personal and professional computing. Laptops offer the convenience of using a battery so that the system may be used anywhere. These computers also include a power cord that may be used with an electrical outlet when it is convenient for the user. The electrical cord comes with a built in laptop power supply. Unfortunately, these power supplies may eventually experience complications and interrupt the flow of power that is required to operate your laptop. If you own a laptop, it is important to know and understand how to determine if you need a new laptop power supply.

The first step to determining if you need a new laptop power supply is to observe the status lights that are built into the laptop that you are using when you power the system on. If you find that the lights are not on, it is important to ensure that the cord that has the power supply is placed firmly in the back of the laptop and that it is placed firmly in the electrical outlet that you have chosen to utilize. If the plug is placed firmly in both locations, you should attempt to plug another electrical appliance into the outlet to check to see if it works. If so, it may be time for a new power supply.

If you have determined that you are in need for a new laptop power supply, it is important to ensure that you shop for one that is compatible with your computer. Many mistakenly believe that all cords and power supplies on laptops are the same. However, there are many different types. You should take the time to make a note of the serial numbers and other identifying characteristics of the power supply prior to shopping for a replacement. What do you do with an old laptop power supply?
I have an old Dell laptop power supply that I just had to replace, are you supposed to recycle these? I know you have to recycle the laptop batteries but I am unsure about the power supplies, I feel kinda strange just throwing it out..... Also I have some old hard drives, the same question applies to these. I have tried searching online and on the Dell website but haven't turned up anything. Any advice is much appreciated.

I dont think I can help much, all I can say is: You could just throw them, im sure a bit of recycling doesnt change everything. If you recycle everything else, it'll be fine. Also with hard drives, break them apart, smash them to peices, and set them on fire, because people can take them, and get ALL your information of logins, and your PayPal and things like that. Even if you dont have paypal they can find alot more. Then, throw them. If the power supplys still work, maybe sell them on an online website like Amazon.co.uk or eBay.co.uk -A
